A BRIEF HISTORY OF CERAMICS
30,000 years ago, in Moldova, the shaman who predicted the future by throwing clay figurines into the fire was humanity's first ceramist. Throughout its multi-millennial adventure, ceramics will thus be marked by the gestures of the sacred, but also by those of everyday life, alchemy, art and science, preserving, through its metamorphoses, the memory of its experiences. Under the pen of the potter Jean Girel, we realize that its history is also that of a celebration. Each chapter is accompanied by a mini-guide to “see and read” on the subject. Summary 1. The invention of the shaman 2. The great kiln of Graufesenque 3. Islamic glazes, a learned alchemy 4. The apogee of Chinese ceramics 5. The Pre-Columbians, without a wheel or kiln 6. The quest for porcelain 7. The potters of glazed earthenware 8. The ceramics of artists 9. The 21st century will be ceramic!
