MARTIN MARGIELA / LAFAYETTE ANTICIPATIONS
It alternates photos of the final works in the exhibition space with so-called "making of" images, taken by the artist himself throughout his work. This book shows Martin Margiela's research and inspiration as well as his investment alongside the Foundation's teams who have carried out their most important project of production of works since the opening of the Foundation.
Conceived as a true workshop book, the catalogue includes several surprises, as Martin Margiela has always known how to reserve for his audience. The texts allow us to place the artist in his context and to better understand each aspect of his work.
Chris Dercon recalls his training, his early work and his artistic approach during his years as a fashion designer, Friedrich Meschede insists on the importance of serendipity in his approach, François Quintin focuses on several of Martin Margiela's obsessions in his work and Rebecca Lamarche-Vadel retraces the stages and objectives of this exhibition project.
An interview between Martin Margiela and Balthasar Laury allows us to see certain works through the eyes of a child of about twelve years old.
