This work is based on a reasoned inventory of the holiday cities built during the period of the Trente Glorieuses in the Var. From an analysis conducted at different scales: territorial urban planning, logic of mass plans, typologies of housing and interior design; it develops, with the support of a very abundant illustration, a broad set of themes. - First, a particular development of the department is highlighted, which coordinates its tourist deployment based on a tenacious tradition of preserving landscapes, initiated since the 1920s with the Prost Plan for the coast. - Then, the social and spatial specificities of the holiday cities are analyzed, real research laboratories for architects. Reduced in their diversity to the logic of financial and legal arrangements, these cities are essentially part of a tradition of creating seaside resorts established by the Parisian bourgeoisie. A notable evolution is however due to the new popular and social programs implemented by the State and the associative world. - Finally, the demonstration is made of an idealized vision of these cities echoing the construction of a new imaginary of vacations specific to the Trente Glorieuses. This is reflected in particular in the architecture-landscape, the "living outside" and a dimension of affirmed community utopia. The work also aims to show the modalities and the value of the transfer of these qualitative experiences to ordinary housing operations.
